With experience as a commercial litigator and in-house counsel, Lika Miyake is comfortable both delivering complex legal arguments to courts and providing holistic problem-solving advice to business clients. Lika specializes in advising media and entertainment companies on the intellectual property issues that arise in the creation and distribution of audiovisual content, with a focus on copyright, trademark, right of publicity, defamation, and right of privacy issues under both U.S. and international law.

She is a seasoned civil litigator with experience in resolving contract, employment, regulatory, and securities-related disputes for Fortune 500 companies. She also has had a significant practice in civil rights law, litigating cases to advance the rights of LGBTQ individuals, immigrants, and prisoners.

Prior to joining Willenken, Lika served as Vice President, Intellectual Property, at Sony Pictures Entertainment for more than six years. In her work there, she provided legal clearance advice to all of Sony’s production units, handled intellectual property-related disputes worldwide, managed the trademark registration and enforcement program, and participated in the Motion Picture Association’s amicus and legislative advocacy efforts.

Before that, Lika practiced law at Munger, Tolles & Olson LLP, where, amongst other major cases, she represented a public utility client in a matter before the Public Utilities Commission, successfully defended clients facing both individual and class-action employment claims, and prevented the dissolution of thousands of same-sex marriages in the California Supreme Court challenge to Proposition 8 in the immediate aftermath of the 2008 election.

Lika began her legal career as a law clerk for The Honorable Judge Alfred T. Goodwin of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

When not practicing law, Lika enjoys choral singing (she is a member of the LA Master Chorale) and spending time with her family.
