Practicing in the Hybrid Workplace: Legal Ethics Do’s and Don’ts

Partner Amelia Sargent will present a virtual ALI CLE on the topic of “Practicing in the Hybrid Workplace: Legal Ethics Do’s and Don’ts.”

The pandemic has caused an unprecedented, ongoing disruption to the workplace. Over the next few months, many attorneys and law firm staff are preparing to return to work from the office at least a few times a week. As a result, hybrid work schedules (performing work both remotely and in-office) are quickly becoming the new normal.

But despite lawyers being able to complete their work remotely, the Model Rules of Professional Conduct haven’t changed. A lawyer must continue to represent their clients effectively “despite opposition, obstruction, or personal inconvenience to the lawyer.” (Rule 1.3, cmt. 1.)

This one-hour webinar will discuss the challenges that a hybrid schedule poses to the ethical responsibilities all attorneys face. Topics include:

    • Juggling work from home challenges with duties of diligence and communication.
    • Technology and the duties of confidentiality and competence.
    • Working from anywhere and the unauthorized or multijurisdictional practice of law.
    • Professionalism and civility rules during stressful times.
